Organic Thanksgiving Turkeys in the Lehigh Valley

Categories

Thanksgiving has a way of bringing us back to what matters most: gathering around the table, sharing good food, and spending time with the people we love. And when you’re planning a meal that means this much, knowing where your food comes from can make it even more meaningful.

I have a confession to make: our family hasn’t bought a Thanksgiving turkey in a while! In recent years, we’ve enjoyed duck and chicken, and we’ve had turkey when someone else hosted Thanksgiving. But this year is different.

We’re partnering with Koch’s Turkey Farm, another Pennsylvania family farm, to make certified organic Thanksgiving turkeys available to our Willow Haven Farm community. I’m going to be the first one to reserve ours, and we’re looking forward to enjoying it around our own Thanksgiving table.

If you’re looking for an organic turkey in the Lehigh Valley this Thanksgiving, here’s everything you need to know about reserving yours.

Reserve by October 11 for Our Best Turkey Price

If you already know turkey will be at the center of your Thanksgiving table, ordering early will give you our best price of the season.

Reserve and pay in full by October 11, 2026 to receive early-presale pricing. This is a full-payment reservation rather than a deposit, and you’ll select from three available size ranges when ordering online.

Turkey Size Nonmember Price Member Price
10–12 lb $116.75 $105.08
14–16 lb $159.00 $143.10
18–20 lb $201.00 $180.90

Members receive 10% off. Early-presale prices are fixed according to the size range you select, so your final charge will not be adjusted based on the turkey’s exact weight.

Who Raises Our Organic Thanksgiving Turkeys?

Your turkey isn’t coming from an anonymous supplier. We’re partnering with Koch’s Turkey Farm in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania.

Koch’s is a family farm with roots going back to 1939, when Roscoe and Emma Koch began raising turkeys on their family farm. Their son Lowell and his wife Elizabeth established Koch’s Turkey Farm in 1953, and the farm later passed to the third generation of the Koch family.

That family-farm connection matters to us.

Reuben and I want to help families know more about the people producing their food, not just what’s printed on the package. Working with another Pennsylvania farm lets us offer something we don’t raise ourselves while keeping that connection between farmers and families.

How Are Koch’s Organic Turkeys Raised?

Koch’s states that its whole organic turkeys are USDA certified organic. According to the farm, USDA organic requirements for these birds include 100% organic feed and forage, living conditions that accommodate natural behaviors, and no administration of antibiotics or hormones.

Koch’s also describes its turkey feeding program as vegetarian and says its turkeys are raised without antibiotics or growth promotants.

For our family, this is part of what knowing your farmer is all about. You can look beyond the word “turkey” on a grocery list and learn more about the farm, the people, and the practices behind the food you’re serving.

What Size Thanksgiving Turkey Do You Need?

Choosing the right turkey size can be one of the trickier parts of Thanksgiving planning.

A useful starting point is approximately 1 to 1½ pounds of uncooked whole turkey per person. Plan toward the higher end if your family loves leftovers or you’re hoping for turkey sandwiches the next day.

For our available sizes, a simple planning guide is:

10–12 lb turkey: A good starting point for about 6–8 guests, depending on appetites and desired leftovers.

14–16 lb turkey: A good starting point for about 9–12 guests.

18–20 lb turkey: A good starting point for about 12–16 guests.

If your guest count and leftover plans require more than 20 pounds, consider reserving two turkeys.

Serving amounts are planning estimates. Individual appetites and the amount of other food being served will affect how much turkey you need.
