That’s us

I’m Tessa DeMaster, the farmer’s wife… and the one writing most of what you read.

I grew up on this farm in New Tripoli, PA, learning what great, homegrown food tastes like, thanks to my mother’s huge garden and my grandfather’s orchard. I always loved fresh vegetables, but as a young mom was shopping at the grocery store for things like potatoes and carrots which I assumed were the same.

Boy, was I wrong!

Farming on our own land converted me. There is no comparison to the taste and quality of a tomato, or even a potato, grown on a small scale, by a local farmer.

Grandpa’s shed – oldest outbuilding on the farm

I met my husband, Reuben, in 1995, and we got married in 1997 – our reception was even here on the farm. Reuben has loved growing things since he was young. As a teen, he worked on farms and when we got our first house he started a garden right away.

Visiting my family’s farm was an oasis for Reuben and he was always tinkering with the trees, the orchard and the gardens… even before we started farming full-time.

Our family’s small garden plot was the first source of veggies for our seasonal veggie box program. Eventually, we outgrew the garden space and took over the entire 50 acre farm.

In 2009, Reuben committed to farming full time and decided that the entire Willow Haven operation should be organic.

Not only do organic growing practices align with the way we want to feed our own family, but it also is the way we wish to feed our community.

Our food journey lead us to start an organic vegetable farm, a calling which has changed our lives for the better!

We are excited to help you on your food journey!

Join our farm family and you will know the farmers that grow your food. (We’re about as farm-family as it gets!)
