Farm Stand Sales - Bethlehem

Work Share Positions:

Field Work

Vegetable Delivery

Market Salesperson

It takes many people to make the farm successful and we especially appreciate the work share helpers.  Work share helpers always receive a good supply of fresh vegetables and occasional other farm products. To apply for any position please send  inquiry to willowhavenfarm@live.com

Here are the main tasks that we need help with:

Tuesday morning field work.  Starting on May 23, every Tuesday is open for work share help.  In order to help in this way, please send an email the day before and show up promptly at 8:30 AM.  We usually are picking, planting, or washing vegetables although there may be other field tasks to accomplish.  We usually end around Noon and everyone goes home with vegetables.

Vegetable deliveries.  If you are able to drive consistently and would like to deliver a regular route, each year, we need 5-6 people to deliver vegetables.  Drivers must be able to come every Wednesday (or almost every week) at 1 PM to pick up vegetables and then deliver to 10-12 homes in the Lehigh Valley.  Drivers will receive a box of vegetables similar to those they are delivering.

Thursday deliveries.  If you are able to drive a truck and trailer, we need someone to make a Thursday morning delivery to Bethlehem each week.  You would have to be at the farm by 10:30 and you would have to unload the vegetables and return to the farm.  It takes about 2 hours.

Market Salesperson. We are always looking for people to help with our Saturday market at the farm.  This person will be responsible to organize and to restock the vegetable display wagon from 9 AM to 2 PM.  We realize that most people cannot commit to every Saturday, but it works best for us if you come regularly.  Ideally we would like to find people that can come at least 2 times per month.

Baker.  If anyone would like to learn how to produce sourdough, brick oven bread, we could use your help on Friday afternoons.  This is when we shape loaves and get them in the oven.  Baking usually lasts until 8 PM.  There is a lot of cleanup involved (pans to wash) but you will be able to participate in the baking.

-------------------------

We also occasionally are able to pay people in vegetables and in cash for some work share tasks.  If you have a particular ability and interest and competency, please let us know.  Here are some things that we need:

Farm Stand Sales.  If you are able to drive a truck and trailer, set up a market display, sell directly to customers for 4 hours, take down the display, and drive back to the farm, you are a special person and we would love to have your help.  We will be back at the Rose Garden Market in Bethlehem this year and we would like to find someone to help with this market.  We might also need a second person who can meet the truck at the market and help during the market.  However, the difficult task is getting the truck to Bethlehem by 8 AM on a Saturday morning.  Please contact us if you have any interest.

Farm stand sales at Willow Haven.  We are looking for someone to sell at our farm store on Saturdays. You will be much more than a ‘cashier’.  You need to be able to talk about the products that we have for sale with people.  The hours are 9:30 – 1:30 on Saturdays.

Field Manager – A good vegetable field manager is always needed.  If you know someone with interest and ability to learn, work, and manage let us know.  We would love to talk with you.

Organic Farm Internship for 2017
Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, near Allentown

General Description: Willow Haven Farm is a third generation family farm in the hills of the Blue Mountain in the Lehigh Valley. Our diversified farm utilizes organic practices and traditional farming methods such as composting, cover cropping, soil testing, and crop rotation. Our main product is our vegetable CSA for which we tend a great variety of plants from seed to harvest. We supplement our CSA experience with an On Farm Market every Saturday where members and the public can see all our seasonal vegetables on display as well as many of our other products. Reuben and Tessa DeMaster have a passion for nutrient dense food, grown and preserved with traditional methods. As a result we make unique seasonal products like fresh sauerkraut; kimchi; brick oven, whole grain sourdough breads; fruit spreads and more. As part of our vision for a sustainable farm that is continuing to increase the fertility of the land we steward, we maintain small flocks and herds of sheep, pigs, cows and chickens. These grass-fed, pastured animals return nutrients to the fields and provide high quality eggs and meat that our customers and our family love. We've built this farm on a foundation of generations of Pennsylvania dutch homesteaders and continue to bring small but valuable improvements each year such as our high tunnel, irrigation system, fencing, greenhouse, outdoor brick oven, and plastic layer.
