Blue Mtn Farm Market

Selling Willow Haven Farm products in Walnutport & Slatington

New Farm Market
The residents of Slatington will have a new sight as they reach the Delaware and Lehigh Trailhead on Main Street this summer – The Blue Mountain Farm Market.

Grand Opening
The market, which kicks off Memorial Day Weekend, will be open on Fridays from 12:00pm-6:00pm and Saturdays from 8:00am-2:00pm through October.

Local & Organic Farm Products
Local produce and farm products from growers nearby such as vegetables, fruit, honey, eggs, brick oven bread and baked goods will be just some of what is available throughout the season. Many of these products are grown on farms that only use organic methods, meaning that they are grown without synthetic fertilizers or chemical sprays.  At the Farm Market these products will be marked.

 Great Location
The local Venture Group offered space under their new pavilion at the Asher F. Boyer section of the D&L National Heritage Corridor for the market. With ample parking, weekend traffic for trail use, and an excited community, the market hopes to be a vital resource for area residents who have been without a local grocery store since the Pathmark closed last September.

Great Farmers
The farmers organizing the market, Liz Wagner of Crooked Row Farm and Reuben DeMaster of Willow Haven Farm in New Tripoli, work with Buy Fresh Buy Local Greater Lehigh Valley in their current farm operations and are partnering with this organization to offer additional benefits and educational opportunities and events for the stand throughout the season.

The first of these initiatives includes Double SNAP dollars for customers paying for fresh produce with their Access/EBT cards. BFBLGLV will match every $1 customers spend using SNAP (formerly called food stamps) on fresh, local fruits and vegetables up to $10. Spend $10 with an Access/EBT card, get an extra $10 to spend on local produce.

Great Potential
“We are so excited to set up in Slatington,” said Wagner, who graduated from Northern Lehigh High School in 2007. “The Trailhead is a beautiful space for folks to come and enjoy some time on a Friday and Saturday, and the market aims to be a wonderful opportunity for great food and conversations about food with the whole community.” The farmers hope to offer a venue for educational presentations, such as sponsored cooking demos, as the market gains traction.

 Sponsors & Partners
They are currently seeking sponsors to help advertise and promote the market as Opening Day approaches. “Both the Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber and the local Venture Group are very pleased to say ‘Welcome!’ to our newest residences of  The Trailhead in Slatington,” said Chamber President Nancy Treskot.

The Blue Mountain Farm Market debuts Friday, May 27. If you would like to share any advertising materials for the market at your business, church, or organization, or would like to become a sponsor, please contact Liz Wagner at 610-417-6982 or liz.m.wagner@gmail.com.
